Some research questions I am fascinated by are: How do different context shape the genomes of organisms? How does functional context shape adaptive variation? How do microbes evolve and adapt to new niches? How is adaptation reflected in phenotypic traits? How do traits evolve and diversify? Do symbioses create and/or enforce species boundaries?

I’m broadly interested in how evolution shapes the diversity of life. For me this means thinking about evolution in different layers. One layer might be considering how species evolve, how we count species, and how we measure differences between species. A second layer might be considering how these species influence other species in communities, as well as how species adapt to different external pressures. The endless possibilities of things to study as well as constantly improving methods for quantification excites me to keep asking new questions and thinking about ideas in different ways.
